Overview & Highlights

Shook! in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, is a culinary gem that beautifully blends contemporary dining with refined comfort. Nestled at 181, Jln Bukit Bintang, this restaurant is an inviting haven for those seeking an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere complemented by thoughtfully crafted dishes.

At Shook!, the dining experience is defined by its diverse and carefully curated menu, showcasing a fusion of local Malaysian flavors with international influences. Guests consistently praise popular selections like the delicately smoked salmon appetizer, served with crispy pumpernickel toast – a perfect balance of smoky richness and hearty texture that gently awakens the palate. The Mushroom Consommé with mushroom ravioli offers a nuanced depth, enveloping diners in earthy warmth, though some find its seasoning a bit bold, making it an intriguing choice to savor mindfully.

The ambience here strikes a rare harmony between quiet luxury and genuine coziness. Whether dining in the sophisticated, intimate private room designed to host around 20 guests or enjoying the wider elegant dining area, visitors appreciate the calm sophistication that sets Shook! apart from the buzz of Bukit Bintang. The soft lighting and tasteful design render it ideal for both romantic dinners and leisurely gatherings with close friends or colleagues.

Service at Shook! is frequently highlighted as a standout feature. Attentive and professional without ever being overbearing, the staff enhance the overall experience with their warm hospitality and thoughtful attention to detail. Many diners express genuine satisfaction in the seamless service, feeling well cared for during their entire visit, even when the restaurant becomes busy.

Breakfast at Shook!—especially when paired with the nearby JW Marriott hotel facilities—is a lively affair offering a wide variety from live Indian pratha and noodle stations to freshly made egg dishes. The bustling atmosphere adds to the excitement though at times it draws sizeable queues, a testament to the restaurant’s popularity and the quality of its offerings. The breakfast buffet presents a pleasing spread including flavorful chicken and lamb curries that delight fans of local cuisine, alongside Western favorites like exceptionally crispy hash browns.

Regular patrons rave about the generous portion sizes and the exceptional taste of dishes from the Tastemaker’s Menu, where rich, comforting flavors meet modern culinary craftmanship. Desserts such as the brownie with ice cream leave a sweet finish, though some note that beverage service can occasionally lag during larger group meals, a minor caveat in an otherwise splendid dining journey.

Stepping into Shook! feels like entering a sophisticated sanctuary—a place where every bite excites and every moment invites you to slow down and savor not just the food, but the experience itself. Whether you’re a local or a traveler craving a quiet yet superior dining option within Kuala Lumpur’s bustling city center, Shook! promises to leave an indelible impression on your palate and your senses.

Was invited to a private event lunch in Shook’s private dining room. it was a 4 course lunch. The room is nice and cosy and could fit up to around 20pax. We started off with Home Smoked Salmon. This was a nice appetizer and the pumpernickel toast served goes well with it. For soup we had Mushroom Consommé with mushroom ravioli. I find the soup salty and had just 2 spoonful of it. My choice of main course was pan fried barramundi which was done well on a bed of leek and crushed potatoes. Our dessert of lemon tart was delicious and not too sweet. A very nice dessert to end our meal. The service at Shook was good and friendly. Oh and I forgot to mention that the bread rolls served were delicious. During lunch time on a Sunday, the restaurant was quiet. I like the private room and will come back to plan for a private birthday party soon.

One of the best restaurant that I have been to with my wife. Good food with generous portion, quiet & classy ambience, and most importantly attentive customer service throughout the whole dinner. This is a restaurant where I have no objection for giving the 10% service charge. Imagine wandering around KL City Centre and looking for dinner in somewhere quiet with nice ambience, we came to Shook! after we drop-by at Starhill Gallery. We went there around 7.45pm and the dinner ala-carte menu looks fine for me and my wife so we decided to give it a try. Once we're inside, a sincere, nice and sweet lady Miya came to our table asking whether are we ready to order and she even offered us some opinions regarding the dishes that we've chosen. We ordered Grilled Red Snapper with Truffle Mac n Cheese, Pizza (forgot the name) and Wild Mushroom Soup for 2 person. The taste of the food was good and food portion was so generous that we can't even finished the pizza and had to take it away with us so for us, the taste + portion = price we paid for (absolutely fair). Not forget to mention, Miya came at least 4 times during our 2 hours dinner in the restaurant. Before we proceed to the counter for payment, we told Miya that today is actually my birthday so right away she asked me not to go first because she wanted to give me a surprise and after 5mins, she and her colleagues came to me with a nice and tasty chocolate brownie type of cake while singing happy birthday. A really nice gesture and marvelous experience for me and wife. When we were doing our payment, once again Miya came to talked to us and tell us how happy she was to have us coming here for birthday dinner. What a sweet lady and I hope the company can really see her effort and attentive towards customers. A tremendous service from Miya and her action left me and my wife a very good impression towards Shook! Will definitely come back for another round of lunch / dinner for sure but make sure Miya is there! :)

The hotel restaurant for breakfast is impressively large, yet it becomes extremely crowded during peak hours. On a Sunday morning, there was a constant long queue outside the restaurant. Despite the crowds, the restaurant offers a wide variety of food options. Guests can enjoy a live Indian pratha station, a noodle station, and an egg station, along with an extensive selection of pastries. The local Malay food section is particularly noteworthy, with delicious offerings like Nasi Lemak and sambal squid. However, the overwhelming number of patrons significantly detracts from the dining experience. The food area can become quite dirty due to the sheer volume of people, and the wait for the coffee machine is long, despite the availability of pre-made coffee and Teh Tarik in large containers. Overall, while the variety and quality of food are commendable, the crowded environment and cleanliness issues during peak times make for a less enjoyable experience.

Food options are very varied compared to hotels in North America. But I can see why some travelers from other regions may be more critical. That said whole none of the dishes were terrible, I've also had better versions of every dish, such as their nasi lemak, mee goreng, pratha, etc. Their hash brown was really really good though. Service was excellent. It does get a bit crowded and as a results some dishes do run out for a few minutes or more. We stayed from a Tuesday through a Thursday in July of 2024.

Came here for breakfast buffet as part of JW Marriot stat. Food was good, spread was decent. Most local , western n limited middle eastern food was available. The chicken and lamb curries were excellent. Staff was friendly and attentive.

A group of us schoolmates had lunch here with dishes selected from their Tastemaker’s Menu. We throughly enjoyed it & they put our group in a private room that was most comfortable & nice. Food exceptionally good & portion was generous. We had soup & dessert of the day was brownie with ice cream. It took some time to serve coffee & tea for our big group though & I finished my dessert by the time my coffee came. But coffee was hot & fragrant so it was good too. Overall we had a very enjoyable food experience at Shook. Environment was nice & Service was good.

The food is amazing and very scrumptious the interior design was great and the food is simple to choose a variety of choices to make and filling to my stomach very mouth watering in my mouth. It is very appetizing
